Why You Should Register a Domain Name For Your Direct Sale Business
By: Heather Bixler

When starting a direct sales business one of the main struggles a new consultant faces is standing out from the crowd. Often the product they are trying to sell is a great product, however there may also be several other consultants selling the same product. Registering a personal domain name that will point to your direct sales website is one way to help separate you from the rest of the direct sales consultants within your business.

Domain names are pretty affordable. The yearly price of a domain name ranges anywhere from free on up to $12.95. It really just depends on whether or not you purchase website hosting with your domain name, or where you register your domain name.

The place where you will register your domain name is called a Domain Registrar. When choosing a registrar you will want to be sure that they have a good reputation and can be trusted.

Once you have registered your domain name you will then want to redirect your new domain name to your website. Most domain registrars offer this service free of charge. Which helps to eliminate the need to purchase website hosting which brings down your business costs.

To redirect your domain you will want to log into your account at your registrar. Next go to "manage domains" then click on redirect. There you will need to follow directions provided by your registrar. All you really need through this process is the URL to the website you are redirecting your new domain name to.

While you are redirecting your domain name you will be asked if you would like to have your domain name "masked" or "unmasked." Basically what this means is if once the site visitor is directed to your website, would you like the address in the address bar to reflect your direct sales business URL, or your personal domain name URL.

Really this is all about preference. Most of the time your visitors will remember your personal domain name better than your direct sales business website.

These are just a few things to consider when purchasing a domain name to help grow your direct sales business. The internet has certainly opened up many doors for a consultant to grow their business. Buying your own personal domain name to promote your online direct sales website is just one step in this process.
